My sons really like getting the DVD’s through the post and whenever they missing their dad I put one on cos he always introduces the story saying hello n telling the boys he loves them , my youngest one waves back and says “daddy on tv !” My middle one didn’t like reading much but has a go at some of the gruffalo books now because his dad has read it . We also done a story DVD altogether on a family day with me and the kids on it too and it’s a nice reminder oood day we had all together. Think it’s a really good charity and helps my boys

Our story

Storybook Dads is a multi-award winning charity, well-known and respected in the prison estate...but back in 2002 it was a very different story! Click here to find out more about our humble beginnings.
Where we work

We work in approximately 100 UK prisons, including women’s prisons, young offender institutes and secure hospitals.
Story CDs and DVDs

Every year we help over 5,000 prisoners to record bedtime stories for their children. By sending a story disc to their children, parents can bring comfort to their children and share the joy of storytelling from behind bars. Our friendly team are there to help less confident readers and the editing process means that even non-readers can take part.
Storybook Dads Main Appeal

Storybook Dads relies entirely upon charitable contributions. We don’t receive any statutory funding or funding from HM Prison Service. Every donation really does help us to continue offering our service.
What we do

Training/Work Experience

Recordings from prisons all over the UK are sent to our headquarters and main production centre at HMP Dartmoor in Devon. Our eight prisoner editors are trained to use industry standard audio / video software to make the stories into extra special gifts for the children.
