On the editing sheet you will see four options to choose from; Audio, Video, Read Along and Look and Listen. Video is just for prisons that have a video camera and film their participants reading a story. All the other options are available for all prisons who have an audio recorder. Below will explain each option with examples of the finished product.

Audio

You send us an audio recording of the parent's reading a story and then we take out any mistakes and add music and sound effects to create an audio file/burn to CD. We have over 200 books to choose from our book list. Listen below to how we edit audio files with music and sound effects:

Look and Listen

You send us an audio recording of the parent’s voice. We then add music, sound effects and add the pictures from the book. The finished edit is a video file/burnt to DVD. Choose this if the participant wants pictures of the book added to accompany their voice. There is no written text with this story; just pictures and the spoken word. We have forty books to choose from our book list. Watch our Look and Listen example below:

Read Along

You send us an audio recording of the parent’s voice. We then add music, sound effects and add the pictures from the book (with the text). The finished edit is a video file/burnt to DVD.

This is for participants who would like to help their child learn to read. As the words are spoken, they appear on the screen one at a time so the child can follow along.

The reader needs to speak quite slowly. Please tell them this and interrupt to remind them if they start to speed up. This is a great new project for parents to become involved in their children’s literacy development, so do try to promote this format. We have ten books to choose from our book list. Watch our Read Along example below:
