...I couldn't run for a bus, and when I did, I twisted my ankle, usually on the Friday before half term resulting in a week on crutches. When I started C25K the idea of running for any set period of time was daunting.

Every year in the UK, 200,000 children experience the imprisonment of a parent. It often leads to shame, guilt and isolation resulting in failure at school. These children are three times more prone to mental health problems than their peers. Keeping in contact can be difficult from behind bars; prisoners may be held long distances from their families. Those that maintain contact are up to 6 times less likely to re-offend.

Storybook Dads enables families to reconnect through the magic of storytelling. They help more than 50,000 parents in prison to record bedtime stories and messages for their children on CD or DVD. For many families, these story discs are a lifeline, helping to heal rifts and build vital family relationships. It shows the children they are loved and missed. It helps prisoners to feel valued as parents and gives them the opportunity to have a positive impact on their children’s lives.

Beginning in 2002, Storybook Dads has grown is now based in HMP Channings Wood. The team consists of eight staff and sixteen prisoners who provide an editing and production service to approximately 100 prisons.

I'm asking you to support my pledge to Storybook Dads and help to raise much needed funds to enable them to continue their good work to many children across the UK.
